There are currently two studies of survivors of sexual assault that BARCC is helping to promote.  They are:

Are you a woman who has survived a sexual assault?

The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center and the Boston VA are conducting a research study for women who have recently been sexually assaulted. 

  • If you are a woman over the age of 18 who has been sexually assaulted in the past 4 weeks you may be eligible to participate.
  • Reimbursement for study involvement
  • The study consists of 4 online (internet) confidential surveys completed over the course of 4 months.
  • You will not be asked to provide your name on the website.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of the study?

The information collected in this study will be used to improve our understanding of what it is like to experience this trauma and will help to inform services available to assault survivors.

Who can participate?

Adult women (over the age of 18) who have been sexually assaulted in the past four (4) weeks.

What does the study involve?

Participation involved confidentially filling out online questionnaires once a month for four months.  You will not be asked to provide your name on the website.

The first survey takes about 35 minutes to complete, and subsequent surveys take about 20 minutes to complete.

Compensation

Reimbursement is provided for study involvement.

What kinds of questions are asked?

Examples of the online questions include asking about your mental health since the assault, ways that you have been coping, and how much report you have been receiving. You do not have to answer any questions you do not wish to answer.

Where will the study take place?

You may participate in this study from your own home or anywhere else you can access the internet.

Are you a man or a woman who has survived a sexual assault?

A study is being conducted through the Boston College Connell School of Nursing for men and women, 18-25 years old, who have been sexually assaulted during the past 5 years.

What is the purpose of the study?

The purpose of this study is to describe regret among individuals who have experienced SA regarding their decision of whether or not to report the assault to the police.

Who can participate?

Adult men and women between the ages of 18 and 25 years old who have been sexually assaulted in the past five (5) years.

What does the study involve?

Participation involves filling out one online questionnaire one time.  The online survey is confidential and anonymous.  The survey contains 34 multiple choice questions, and should take about 15 minutes to complete.
